QS reports in 48 hours · Fixed-fee quotes · Working nationwide from plans
What do you need numbers for?
I’m a builder.
Priced take-offs and bills of quantities you can quote from, without losing another night to the scale ruler.
Builder estimates and BOQs
I’m a subbie or trade.
Trade-specific take-offs for painting, plastering, roofing, cladding, concrete, tiling and more.
Trade and subcontractor take-offs
I’m a homeowner or owner-builder.
Your bank wants a QS report, or you want to know what the build will really cost before you sign.
QS bank reports · New build estimates · Renovation costings
I’m a developer or investor.
Early numbers before the design is locked in, so you know whether the project stacks up.
Feasibility and concept costings
Good numbers win jobs. Guesswork loses them.
Price a job too high and someone else gets it. Price it too low and you spend the next three months working for nothing.
Most of the time the difference comes down to the take-off. Miss a wall, a few square metres of cladding or a run of flashings, and the whole quote is out.
Doing it properly takes hours you haven’t got. So it gets done late at night, after a full day on the tools, when you’re tired and it’s easy to miss things.
That’s the part we take off your hands.
What you get from The QS Guys
- A fixed fee agreed before we start [CONFIRM], so you know exactly what it costs up front. There are no hourly rates and no surprise invoice at the end.
- Quantities measured from your plans, item by item, so you can see where every number came from and adjust it to your own rates.
- Your report back in 48 hours, so a bank deadline or a tender closing on Friday doesn’t have to mean a panic. [CONFIRM: the 48 hours starts when the quote is approved and full plans are in, and it covers standard residential jobs]
- Reports written in plain English, so you, your client or your lender can read them without a glossary.
- Nationwide service for plan-based work. Send your plans from Whangārei to Invercargill and we work from them remotely, so your location doesn’t hold you up.
- A real person on the other end who knows building. When you’ve got a question about a line item, you ring us and get an answer.

Why builders and trades use us
We’re set up for people who build. Most QS firms are built around big commercial projects. We’re built around the builder with three jobs on the go and the subbie pricing a repaint on a Sunday night.
We do trade-specific take-offs. If you only need the painting, the roofing or the concrete measured, that’s all we measure, and that’s all you pay for.
Regular work gets rewarded. If you send us jobs every week, we’ll talk to you about volume rates. [CONFIRM]
We talk straight. You’ll get a clear answer on price and timing up front, and plain English all the way through.
Types of projects we price
[CONFIRM list]
New homes · Renovations and extensions · Multi-unit and townhouse developments · Granny flats · Repaints and recladding · Roofing · Concrete and retaining walls · Small commercial fitouts [CONFIRM]
Common questions
Do I actually need a quantity surveyor?
If you’re quoting a job, borrowing to build or trying to check whether a price is fair, a QS gives you numbers measured from the plans instead of a best guess. If you’re not sure, send us the plans and ask. We’ll tell you straight if you don’t need us.
Will my bank accept your report?
Lenders set their own rules, and some only accept reports from certain firms. Before you order a report from anyone, check with your lender or mortgage broker what they need. Send us their requirements with your plans and we’ll tell you up front, before you pay anything, whether our report fits.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the size and detail of the plans, so we quote every job individually. You’ll get a fixed fee before any work starts, and you’re under no obligation to go ahead. [CONFIRM]
How fast is it?
Most QS reports are back within 48 hours of you approving the quote. [CONFIRM: the 48 hours starts when the quote is approved and full plans are in, and it covers standard residential jobs] If you’re working to a bank or tender deadline, put it on the form and we’ll tell you up front whether we can meet it.
Send us your plans
Tell us what you’re building and when you need the numbers. We’ll come back with a fixed-fee quote.
